Why we started this
A personal message from Deborah Shadovitz

Once upon a time there was a Mac show at the Long Beach Convention Center. Unfortunately, in 1993 the owner of Macworld bought that show and closed it. Local feeling was that he wanted to push users up to Macworld SF. But the long trip, cost, and timing didn't work for many users. Left without a local show, users asked the Los Angeles Macintosh Group (LAMG) to host one. They did, and that small event evolved into MacFair LA, a full-fledged show hosting 12,000 Mac users. But the LAMG closed its doors after the 1998 show and with that, the energy behind MacFair LA was gone. Although not financially involved with MacFair LA and not a member of the event's board, I ran the LAMG's meetings and did a lot for MacFair LA. Since then, each time I speak at or attend a user group, or run into Mac users, people tell me they miss getting together with folks beyond their local user group — and ask me to start a new show. Meanwhile, vendors would like to come visit LA users, but simply don’t have the resources to attend all the great small groups in So Cal. So the time has come. I’ve joined forces with consultant, Paul Cartwright, who I met as we volunteered for MacFair LA and now sit with on the board of the San Gabriel Valley Mac Group. (He’s the President.) Together we’re developing my dream event — this gathering. Not only are we doing the show people have long asked me for, but since I’ve also been asked to hold user group-priced classes again, we’re holding some classes too!

So we hope you’ll join us. Get together, hang out, learn from other Mac folk, share ideas — and learn about a bunch of great Mac software and hardware first-hand.
